We used K-12 before we moved to a state that didn't have a virtual academy, so I can empathise. However, I feel like it is the best thing that ever happened to our homeschooling. We no longer use a boxed curriculum set (they are all way more than we can afford). I have since pieced together our own collection of things that are working great. we also now have the freedom to try new things. Sometimes we do unit studies, we've done lapbooks, currently we are useing workboxes and they have helped to give passive structure to our days.
If you like the K-12 stuff, you'll want to look at Story of the World. I found that K-12's first grade history is directly from SOTW Vol. 1, they just use different maps and projects.
For spelling we have begun useing Sequential Spelling, which DS and I realy like. It is so much easier than trying to memorize random lists of words.
We just got Easy Grammar, and will be doing that soon.
I still use Handwriting Without Tears, which is what we used with K-12.
We are having fun useing R.E.A.L Science Oddyssey for Life Science.
For math, we use a lot of online games, free printable worksheets, Living Math, MathArt, and fun math games.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you might find you like useing some different things, and being able to change it up a bit. You might want to check homeschoolclassifieds.com when go to buy your curriculum, as you can get some really great deals.
HTH!
