So my mom called me...she lives 6 hours away and is on stand by for the phone call that I'm in labor. She'll leave to come down here as soon as she can. She knows she'll likely miss the birth, but she's coming to help with the boys, do some cooking/cleaning, and plant my fall bulbs
BUT...my 9 year old sister has chicken pox. GREAT. Now normally that wouldn't concern me. I'm not worried about the baby, I had a horrible case of chicken pox as a child and so I should be VERY immune and should be passing those immunities to baby. Ian and Connor both had chicken pox last summer, too. BUT...Connor has a primary immune deficiency, and does not "hold" immunity, so he is definitely not immune to chicken pox. He's also at high risk for secondary infection, AND we're coming into fall when he tends to be sick anyway. So now is NOT a good time for him to get chicken pox!!! Last summer when he did have them, he had them for NINE WEEKS, his body just couldn't kick the virus, and 7 of those weeks were on anti-virals even.
My mom wasn't planning on bringing my sister with her when she came down, she was going to leave her with my grandparents. But if she gets "sick" with chicken pox, then mom won't want to leave her. If she's just pox-y and itchy, then no big deal, she can just lay in front of the tv and enjoy a week off school.
Great timing, huh??
Oh, one of my doulas is sick, too, classic flu symptoms, fever sore throat shakes body aches... She's feeling somewhat better today, but needs another day or two before she'll be well enough to attend a birth.
Sigh.
