Is it possible for water to break a little, then stop?

I was just on the can, and I'm pretty sure my water just broke a little. I don't think I could have peed myself that much, but now it seems to have slowed down or stopped.

HOw much is supposed to come out?

TMI warning: It happened when I was squeezing a little for a bowel movement, and continued to dribble and have little gushes for about 10 minutes as I sat there and tried to figure out where exactly it was coming from... Sounds so silly to be so unsure!! I'm 98% certain it was coming from the vag, and not the urethra. It was colourless and odourless, and did not seem to be urine.

Once it was a little less wet, I got up and put on a pad. It doesn't seem to be doing it anymore, so I'm a bit confused.

Does this sound like a fluid leak to you, or do you think I just peed? How much is supposed to come out?

I'm not having any contractions yet, but have been feeling particularly menstrual crampy/back achy since yesterday afternoon.

I'm supposed to go in to the hospital if my water breaks but I don't want to do so until I'm more certain, cause I don't want the clock to start ticking until I'm more ready.

I'm not an expert, but I've heard of a bag of waters re-sealing. How far along are you?

It could also have been discharge, as well. I know pregnancy has changed things down there for me as well.

Yes, it's possible for it to reseal. It's also possible that you have a high leak and when you stood back up, baby's head settled back down into your pelvis and is preventing any more leaking.

If your waters had fully "broken", it wouldn't have stopped. You would either have had a pretty big GUSH followed by continuing littler gushes or continuous dribble, or you would still be having small gushes.

For now, drink plenty of water, since your bag will continue to replenish itself, and don't allow anyone to put anything inside you - including an OB for a VE.

Personally, with a small leak like that, I wouldn't go into the hospital, but that's me.

I'm 40 weeks.

I'm not planning to go anywhere until I'm more certain. I just had another wet gushy when I squeezed a little, but again, can't be 100% certain it's not pee. Doesn't seem like it, but who knows?

I leaked slowly (filling pads, but not too quickly) for over 24 hours (no contractions). Never a big gush. I'd figure this probably is your water breaking (or leaking, anyway). Good luck!

What Cristeen said

Either a small leak resealed, or baby's head is acting like a cork, either way I wouldn't count it as a rupture and head to the hospital, that'll start the "clock" and potentially cause unnecessary interventions.

WEll, we called and went in- just in case, due to risk of infection, blah blah blah. If I did leak, it must have resealed cause there was no more to trigger the litmus test enough to show anything obvious. I feel like a bit of an arse, but better safe than sorry.

Also, I'm sure I didn't imagine the whole thing. I could not have peed myself that much!!!

No dilation either, which totally sucks, cause I'm sneaking closer and closer to that "pick a date" appointment on Monday, but what can you do?

Did have a few good contractions while there on the monitors though, so that's something at least.
