Natural ways to deal with anxiety?

We've been going through a very stressful season. While in my head I feel like I am coping with things pretty well, some days my body just seems to get wound up in anxiety. Heart racing, hard to breathe, feels like I need to throw up, etc.

Are there things I can do to naturally relieve the symptoms of this physical anxiety?

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. I have a long history of anxiety. Natural remedies for me include general self-care (getting enough exercise, good food, rest, etc), yoga, meditation, conscious slow breathing when I'm in a bad moment, and therapy (both the talking kind and massage therapy). Also acupuncture.

Meditation for Anxiety

Physical exercise provides natural relief for anxiety. However, I would also recommend taking up meditation. Meditation, by its very nature, helps to calm the mind and re-charge the batteries. Do not be disappointed if it doesn't seem to work immediately. Learning to meditate effectively can take some time, but is worth the effort. You might also might consider Tai Chi, a kind of walking/movement meditation. Concentrating on the movements of Tai Chi can take the mind to a calming state. Plus, you get the benefit of exercise that contributes to joint health. Check with your community college or local hospital for classes.

You could try a little rescue remedy during times you know will be anxious.

intense aerobic exercise along with more meditative exercise. Magnesium citrate, EPA from fish oil and vitamin D3. And if you are going through a really tough time, bibliotherapy I read "Feeling Good" by David Burns and I used the "Mind over Mood" workbook with a therapist.

If you can, though, really intense aerobic exercise esp. running outdoors can work wonders if you are going through a tough time and dealing with anxiety.

Perhaps hypnosis might work to get you to that place of calm--then you can go there on your own w/ meditation. I have had profound results w/ hypnosis, and the calm is something I can recall on my own at a later time.
