does your baby do this?

I'm trying to decide if I should call our ped or not. This is sort of freaking me out.

When Wyatt is asleep, or at least I think he's asleep, he'll smile and have facial movements (normal) but his eyelids will open/flutter and his eyes roll back. I know he could just be having REM sleep but I'm freaked out he's having some kind of seizure. His breathing is normal. Ive tried waking him up from these and I can get him to wake up but it takes a while.

Does that sound like normal REM sleep behavior or someting worth calling about? I''m trying not to be a paranoid first time mom, but I've never been around babies.

All three of my babies have done this. My dh hates it and it still freaks him out.

It seems normal to me... all my kiddos (and my dh and other children/adults I've watched) have done this. If you go to YouTube and search for "infant REM sleep" you'll find lots of videos. Maybe compare what you are seeing with those videos?

That said, if you feel like something is wrong... there is no harm in calling your ped. All the family practice drs I know really do mean it when they say it's better to call than not. I called a lot with my first (once I even stopped in while on a walk with dd1 to ask them to check a possible rash ) and never had a dr blow me off for being concerned.

Both my kids have done that, I'd say it's totally normal.

Both my boys have done that, so I'd say its normal. Really, DS2 makes the funniest faces when he's asleep. Its really pretty funny sometimes!!

Thanks for the reassurance

I *thought* it was REM sleep but the eye roll and eye lid fluttering are so freaky!

Normal. All 3 of mine have done it. Sometimes they twitch a bit when falling asleep too and it used to scare the heck out of me but that is normal too.
