Ramadan Photo Diary

Just after I posted on the issue of mosques, my friend posted this Ramadan photo diary that includes some pictures of one of my favorite mosques in the greater Albany area that has one room for women and men. She mentions how much women mention that they love the particular setup there because of the tall screen (not pictured, sadly) that is optional for women who want more privacy. I love that mosque! I used to go there a lot when I was in high school.

Anyway, it's a nice photo diary that gives you a nice idea about Ramadan and Muslim American culture.

Thank you for sharing this! It was very interesting to see and I learned a lot. I always wondered about the shoe thing!

Just gorgeous! I'm utterly drooling over the food.......... and the hijabs! Seems like such a joyful, community-filled time.

LOL I did in fact find myself momentarily wondering if the hijab-fest would warrant a cross-posting in Covered Girls.

Love it!

Question - why would the ladies cover the curtains if the windows are one-way? Do they just not believe that they're really one-way windows and want to be on the safe side?

One way glass depends on the light levels behind it to be low in order for the people on the other side not to be able to see through it. Maybe that's why? Maybe some of the women took off their hijabs so they wanted to be extra safe? Maybe they didn't want to see the men? All theories.

UmmZaynab, thank you for posting this. I thought I would share, for those interested, a blog that has Eid celebration photos and in an older post, a lovely Ramadan gallery.
