The parents of a 6-week-old boy who bled to death after a circumcision at Rosebud’s Indian Health Service Hospital last year are suing the government for wrongful death.

According to documents filed Wednesday in federal court, Eric Keefe underwent a circumcision on June 13, 2008. His mother gave him Motrin and Tylenol for pain and he suffered massive blood loss at home that night, dying at the hospital the next morning.

News and current event discussion needs to be about the general topic, not the individual newsmakers. Thanks!

So what would be wrong with giving the baby motrin and tylenol? (Assuming the medications were giving at the proper dose levels of course... for example my doctor had told me I could alternate tylenol and motrin when treating a fever)

Dr. Douglas Lehmann failed to inform them of the type of pain medication they should have used.
I would think many parents would be tempted to relieve the pain for their child, and although I wouldn't dose my infant that way (nor would I circumcise), I can understand that a parent would think it safe. So if these parents have older children or had all sorts of people giving them 'advice' I think the motrin, tylenol would be pretty common.

It seems to me this is a way they are trying to pass the blame, but just wondering why that is coming out in the reports.

Poor baby.

Motrin (ibuprofen) is a blood thinner. Any time there is bleeding involved motrin should not be used.

I wish the real death rate from circumcision was published. I believe many more die than we will ever know. It's so sad.

This happened in my home state. I recall when my oldest son was born someone from the IHS clinic called my hospital room asking if we'd circ'd our son. I thought it was strange at the time to get a lecture and be asked about this but now wonder if it was part of a push to circ more NA boys??

At any rate, that poor baby.
