hey, mamas. below is a post (from a mama blog) about a petition to raise awareness about this treatment, and to mandate that RDI be covered by insurances. regardless of your experience with RDI, it just makes good sense to give people *choices* when it comes to taking care of their kids. ABA is a great thing for so many kids, but it certainly isn't a one size fits all treatment. it's awesome that insurances are starting to really cover ABA, but it'd be even greater if insurances covered treatments that worked for lots of kinds of kids kids, as well.
so, please take (literally) TEN seconds, and sign the petition. thanks SO much!

"Important Information on Choice in the Education of our Kids with Autism

I know I’ve fallen off the blog map and have no right to barge in here with my demands but will you all stop what you’re doing RIGHT THIS INSTANT and go sign this petition?
Pretty please?
Here’s the gist:
We, the undersigned, have signed this petition to demonstrate our strong support for Relationship Development Intervention® (RDI®) as a cost effective, research guided, and evidence-based intervention approach for remediating Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). This petition was originated in response to the pending Autism Treatment Acceleration Act (“ATAA”) bill but can and will be sent more broadly to federal and state legislators, regional centers and other state and federal administrative bodies, insurance companies, school districts and any other organizations or individuals who are seeking to determine or influence the selection and delivery of “best autism practices”.
In other words, the petition is to raise awareness about this powerful Autism remediation (okay, call it education) program AND asks that it be covered under the new national and state insurance legislation.
To my way of thinking, this is about choice. Even if you’re an ABA gal, a behaviorist at heart, signing this petition takes nothing away from that coverage. It only asks that congress and the country, actually, widen the scope of effective, acceptable, and well-regarded therapies for our kids.
Think of the gigantic Autism umbrella. There’s a bunch of ASD kids standing beneath. We all agree they’re not cookie-cutter kids. We need a choice. I had one because we could afford RDI out of pocket. We were lucky. Is it right and fair that those who can’t pay out of pocket aren’t able to do what they think is best for their child? For their family?
Do it for the Fluffy’s out there, past, present and future. Without RDI, who knows where he’d be right now? Sorry for the melodrama, but sometimes the drama, she is melo.
And this is one of those times.
so, please take (literally) TEN seconds, and sign the petition. thanks SO much!
