Does the picture give you any clues? I found a slug on one tomato this morning (actually it found me...yuck!!!), wondering if this is the work of slugs or something else........

Thanks!

While slugs are gross...and eating lots of my tomatoes, I'm glad neither of you mentioned those awful green horned fat juicy worms! I cannot stand those things and vowed that if I ever saw one in my garden that would be the end of my tomato growing career. I am seriously skeeved out by those things. Awful childhood memory of picking them off, putting them in a bucket and flushing them down the toilet. Gross.

Have you tried the Ecosense soap spray? Since it's a soap, it takes longer to kill bugs, but you can spray it right on them, and you can even use it the same day you are picking vegetables, because it washes off.

The tomato horn worms generally just eat the leaves, not the tomatoes themselves. I agree they are gross! Tomatoes are so yummy its worth taking your chances though.

I've not tried it...never heard of it actually. Thanks for the tip.

It seems that only the tomatoes that are laying on the ground are getting eaten. Makes me think even more it is slugs (that and they are everywhere in the yard/garden!!) and I wonder if I get more tomatoes up and off the ground will they sorta give up? I propped a few branches up on some wire supports and will see how they fair overnight.

Worth my effort or waste of time?

Course it could all be for nothing as it might freeze tonight. Sigh...it's only the 20th of Sept!
