New invention idea for a sling

So what does everyone think of this idea? Is it even already in existance?
I was thinking how often babies fall asleep while in a sling. I was thinking if I could invent a sling that was like a pouch, but has two metal rigs strategically placed on it so that once the baby falls asleep you could remove the pouch and hang it from the rings onto this contraption with two hooks that would make it into a hammock. Then the baby would not have to be taken out of the sling, and you could give it a little swing if he fusses, or I was even thinking of maybe putting a little motor onto one of the hooks to keep it swinging..

What do you think? Crazy idea?

I thought it is better than a regular swing because the babies head isn't resting on a hard surface and being flattened either.

It sounds interesting for sure, but why not just keep the baby on you while he sleeps? There are a lot of benefits to babywearing and most parents babywear in order to avoid all the extra baby gear and to keep baby close. So, to take off the sling and hang it with your baby in it, kind of defeats that purpose.

I love it

I like the idea. Sometimes I sling DD to sleep, but I dread it because then I'm stuck carrying her around for the entire nap. I'm physically exhausted and sleep deprived to begin with so 2 hours of walking around carrying a baby sometimes leaves me so tired that I'm shaking.

I agree it's a great idea. Yeah, ideally everyone would wear their baby 24/7. But once they're past 4 months or so, I don't think it's totally necessary to wear them all the way through naps, and the suckers get HEAVY! Saves your back and your sanity to be able to detach every once in a while. I like it!! Hooks to hang a sling on would be much less obtrusive than a huge playpen, bassinet, crib or whatever gadget you can never get them to stay asleep in anyway.

That's what I was thinking, the baby gets quite heavy after awhile and if they are asleep anyway, why not take them off for awhile, give your back a break and then save your energy for wearing them while they are awake. Also if you plan on cooking or something, it would be nice to take them off.

Watching that sharktank show has got my creative juices flowing..LOL

With the right baby carrier, there shouldn't be any pain and back aches. If someone is getting pain and back aches when using a baby carrier, than they have the wrong one (type/style) for their needs. And with the right carry and carrier you can do anything you'd like while baby is asleep, including taking care of the older kids, cooking, sitting and what not.

I think it's an interesting idea, but not much different than a swing, bouncy seat, baby hammocks and other baby gear that is in the market for you to put your baby in. I think these things have their place, heck, I have a bouncy seat myself. It's just seems an oxymoron to me to have your baby on you sleeping in a sling and then take them off to hang the sling in a hook with your baby in it instead.

But, apparently, I'm in the minority For every invention, there's seems to be some market, so if you feel it's one you are passionate about, then go for it!

Giselle I have to agree with you on this one... but then again I am pretty much minimalistic with my babygear. So I dont see a need for most things that people get for their babies.

Sling Idea

I think that it's an idea worth pursuing. I would often use the sling to put a baby to sleep and then loosen and scootch myself out of the sling, carefully lay baby down somewhere wrapped in the sling, and tip toe out to wash the floor or do something while baby napped that I couldn't easily do while wearing them.

I've actually heard of moms putting their baby to sleep in a Baby Bjorn and then taking off the Bjorn and hanging it up somewhere for the baby to nap in.

what a fantastic idea!!! why not wear the baby while asleep? how about to take a shower?! when my kids were babies, they would wake up every. single. time. i. laid. them. down. on a firm surface. and that was leaving them in the sling and just putting them doown wrapped in it. if i had something like this, i might have actually had the experience of showering without bloodcurdling screaming coming from the next room (single mama, no one to hold baby)

i think your idea is quite different from all the other "buckets" on the market.

also, i have read about traditional/indiginous cultures where babies asleep in slings are regularly hung from tree branches so their mothers can do things like light a fire, or some other task that is easier to do without babe attached.

i am not planning more children, but if i was to have another baby, a product like this is def. one i would want to have.

I can see where some people would see no need for it, but there are tons of people who see no need for infants swings, boucys, ect but look at how many of those sell.

I know it takes a ton of funding to get a product to market and there are many safety liability issues wth a baby product.

I am a home daycare provider so I may have more than one infant who needs to be in a sling or toddlers that want individual attention. That is why I came up with this idea.. When I take a baby off me in the sling, trying to get them laying down somewhere else without waking them is VERY difficult. If I could just "hang them up" I don't think they would wake up.

I searched through existing patents and see nothing like this.. so as long as noone steals my idea..LOL I could potentially patent it.. I don't know if I have the time or money, but this will be proof the idea was mine...LOL I am a creative genuis..HAHA

Sounds good to me. I was always stuck with baby asleep in the sleepywrap and though I figured out to get her off of me in the Onbu while sleeping she would usually wake up pretty easily. I have a neck injury that makes baby wearing quite painful sometimes and like the other mama said...... SHOWERING! lol I think it's a great idea.
