im pretty sure paula deens recipe uses a box cake mix, are you looking for a recipe from scratch?

also-are you wanting the st louis style that you get from local bakeries or the kind people make at home? the home style ones usually use cream cheese, and the ones from local bakeries usually have no cream cheese...

Don't know about the OP but I would love one from scratch if you are willing to share.

so, the thing is...i have yet to find a scratch recipe using cream cheese.

if you want a recipe that is based on the kind of gooey butter cake you would buy at dierbergs or lubeleys....then here is one. the commercial bakeries dont use cream cheese, they use corn syrup to get that creamy texture!

if you dont mind using a cake mix, then just search for paula deen on food network-she has several on that website.
