Encouraging experiences, please??

I'm between 39 and 40 weeks now and just had my latest appointment yesterday. I gave in and let them do an internal because I have been feeling a lot of pressure and was hoping there were some signs of something, ANYTHING, going on. Of course, it turns out that nothing is going on. I'm only 1-2 cm (which is probably what I've been the whole pg. and before) with a long cervix that is anterior.

Though I am seen at a Dr. practice, they are pretty in-line with my philosophy and won't bother with the induction talk until I'm at least 10 days over, so at least I have some time. I have to say, though, that I am getting antsy!!

Do any of you 'already mothers' have stories of knowing there were absolutely no signs one day and then birthing quite soon afterwards? I know that everybody's different and that baby will come when she's ready, but at least it will give me something happy to read while waiting!

TIA!

Well I've never had an internal. They just don't do it in the UK (where I had my eldest) so it's seems a very bizarre concept to me. Both my labours started with a show and then lots of uncomfortable braxton hicks before moving into labour after about 12 hours. If you can I would recommend avoiding any more cervical checks (unless you really want them) from what I've seen on this board they just seem to stress people out. Seriously baby will come when it's ready.

That's how it was with my daughter. I didn't dilate more than a "tight" 1 cm until labor started. You really can't tell and should not put any stock in how far dilated you are.
