Hey all--checking in--UPDATED--HE'S HERE

So here we are at the hospital. It's actually not the awful experience I had anticipated it would be. LOL I've been on pitocin since 1:40 p.m. and it's now 6 p.m. and things are starting to get uncomfortable. It's kinda hard to type with this iv in my hand too. LOL The staff here have been very accepting of our birth plan and our nurse rocks. It helped that our MW, who is here with us in doula capacity, worked here for a short while. Our nurse recognized her and has pretty much left us alone as a result and is allowing my MW to help with bathroom trips, etc, instead of having to come in here all the time. I'm sure she likes that.

We're currently taking bets on how much longer this will take. I haven't been checked since I got here and at that time I was still 2-3 cm. I know baby has dropped more since then. With ds I went from 6 to 10 in 45 mins so who knows!?!?!!? My MW thinks about 2 hours or so. I say before midnight. So then my DH came in the middle and said 10 p.m. hahah

Thanks for all the support and good thoughts from everyone here. Our DDC is the best!

I'll update again as soon as I can!!!

That's great - use the best of the setting. Be strong, we'll be thinking about you and cheering from the sidelines! You are strong and I hope baby will enter this world gently!

Thinking about you- it won't be long now!! How exciting

We had great hospital experiences, and I know you can have one, too

Can't wait to hear baby details

I sure hope this continues to go well for you!!!!

I think some people don't believe me when I say that my second birth was NOT a horrible hospital experience, that it IS possible to have a good non-interventional birth in a hospital, that the hospital does not *necessarily* have to be horrible. Of course it's not where you want to be, but that doesn't mean it has to be awful.

I'm looking forward to baby news from you soon!!!

Sounds like all is going great! Glad you have your MW as doula for support, that has got to make a big difference in how you feel about having the hospital induction. Good luck and I can't wait to hear about the new baby!

Whew, what a day!

Pit induction went slow and steady on Saturday. After 8+ hours I was still at only 4 cm (I had been at 2 cm for a few weeks already!). The OB came in a couple hours later (it was midnight at this point) to discuss AROM to get things moving and low and behold my water broke all on its own!

I labored for two more hours, kind of in and out of sleep and consciousness. I vomited nicely, which I knew I would do this time! LOL! I was not too aware of what was going on, but all I know was I was checked, determined to be complete, and then was basically ordered by my MW and the OB to push my baby out immediately. Turns out he was having bad decels with every contraction. She let me try for 15 minutes but I couldn't do it. He was not even low enough to do a vacuum extraction. So down the hall to the OR we went...

David Alexander was born 9/20 (18 days post-dates) via emergency c-section weighing 9 lbs 14 oz and was 21 inches tall. He is a BIG boy! He was taken to the NICU because his lungs were full (I'm talking 19ccs worth) of fluid where they have loved on him like crazy.

When my OB delivered him, we discovered that the reason for EVERYTHING--being overdue, lack of spontaneous labor, needing induction, slow descent, etc, etc, and eventually the c-section was the already short cord being wrapped around my little guy's neck TWICE! I thank God that we ended up here at the hospital where they literally saved his life.

It's 1 a.m. Monday now and I've barely slept the past two days (LONG stories about lack of information from my OB and the neonatologist and unavailable nurses here in the post partum unit will be forthcoming when I can think clearly)so I'm going to sign off and sleep. They finally let my boy out of the NICU and wheeled him in, so I'm going to stare into his eyes and drift off.

Thanks to all of your for your prayers, support, and listening ears!

Congratulations on his birth, and I'm so glad that after everything he's doing ok. I'm so glad you wound up where you both needed to be, and hope you heal as comfortably as possible.
