So I'm in coastal S. California, and we have a persimmon tree in our yard. It yields tons of fruit, but though the shape is squat like a Fuyu, the taste is unbearably astringent like the heart/acorn shaped Hachiya.
What's going on here?
An astringent variety of squat persimmon?
A grower error resulting in astringent persimmons that should not be astringent?
An inappropriate environment for a non-astringent Fuyu type persimmon, resulting in astringent fruit?
