I NIP'd at church!

Okay, I'm shamelessly asking for pats on the back This was just a HUGE step for me. I have no problems NIP anywhere else, but church was a different story. Even though I'm fairly covered, I still never really felt like it was "okay" to do so.

But today I decided to try. (Mostly because i didn't want to pump or waste frozen milk) DH was VERY supportive. We decided that I would take my nursing cover but if DS didn't like it (which he didn't) I could just take it off. So that's exactly what I did.

Plus, I had another mom come and sit by me (we were in the "cry/wiggle room") and tell me how glad she was that we chose to attend church there. She seemed more excited than the others' that had greeted us...and I didn't realize why until she started nursing her baby too! It was great. That led to us talking and we found out that we're both non-vaxing as well. Numbers were exchanged (we're both still new to the area so we don't know that many people)

So, let this be an encouragement to NIP! It could lead to a new friendship!

That's great! Big pats on the back for you .

I always just nurse at church--I figure God designed it!

I had a similar experience. I was having a lot of trouble with my kids in church. I've never been embarrassed to nurse in church, but I was embarrassed by my oldest's behavior. I took them into the cry room and saw a woman that I had seen before but not gotten to know. She was struggling with a nursing cover, muttering under her breath from frustration, her baby was beginning to cry. I nursed mine and felt a little better knowing I wasn't the only one struggling. The following week I asked her if she wanted to do a playdate at the park and she said yes. Now we're the godmothers of each other's children. We were both fairly new at the church when we met.

Yay you! My favorite NIP story happened at church.

A little girl who is about 7 is head-over-heels over my LO. He must've been...about 8 weeks? and we were nursing during coffee hour. She was right there (I usually have no prob w/ kids "sticking their noses" - almost literally! - into our BFing times, esp. if parents are okay w/ it.)

Conversation:

Her: He thinks there's milk in there!
Me: Oh, but honey, there is! <some explanation about mommies and milk, interrupted by a quick "are you okay w/ this?" to her mom across the table>

Her: (turning to her mom) Did you do that to me?!?

She was adopted, so her mom bottle fed her, and talked to her about that, and how being pregnant tells women's bodies they need to make mlk for a baby. Ultimately, we had a lovely, open, parent approved conversation about babies and breastfeeding!

Keep it up!

That is awesome! Church is one place I'm not brave enough even after two babies. I have a very rough time with DS2 and I know if I nursed he'd be much easier to handle. I asked our young priest about it and he said he thought it was okay, but the older busybodies might have an issue so I haven't.
