Making smoothies the night before

Thread Starter
My almost 4 year old LOOOOVES smoothies. Weekdays have been crazy for us. The kids get up at 7, we get dressed, eat breakfast, brush teeth, we walk my oldest to the bus stop, walk home, and leave to bring youngest (4 y/o) to preschool. Anyways. Can I make smoothies the night before and just stick them in the fridge? How far in advance can I make them? I'd LOVE to be able to full a whole blender full, pour the smoothie into mason jars and then just have to take them out of the fridge in the morning.

I freeze them in the amount I will need. The night before I move the smoothie to the frig and in the morning I reblend it before serving.

You could probably store smoothies with no ice in the frig. If you use ice I would make it without and reblend to add the ice in the morning. They might change color some just like fruit that has been cut and is stored in the frig.

If you are adding supplements to them you should check to make sure they won't lose their potency.

When i want to have breakfast smoothies, I will cut up the fruit and measure everything into the blender, so all I have to do is add the ice and actually hit the blend button in the morning.
This way they still seem 'fresh' with little work!

That's a good idea, springbride. When I've tried storing them in the fridge already made, no one seems to like them much.

I like this idea. But I wouldn't preblend them- IME the taste and quality greatly decreases the longer they sit- even if it is just a few hrs in the frig.

Good idea Springbride!! I usually put all my leftover smoothie in a jar with lid in the fridge. . .it's okay the next day, I just need to shake it up a bit. I don't put ice in mine though, I use frozen fruit.

I agree.
