Atarax sedation

My 5 year old dd is going in to have 4-5 fillings tomorrow. They are planning to give her Atarax, which apparently is something she drinks to make her relaxed. This is a paediatric dentist we've been referred to and we got in on a cancellation, so I want to just go ahead with it unless there's a real reason not to. She has no allergies that I am aware of. Does anyone have experience with this?

I didn't know they used it for things like sedation (did a quick search, it's not an uncommon use, I just didn't know that!). One thing I can tell you about it is that atarax has been around at least 35 yrs or so and is well tested, so if there are any issues, I'm sure your dentist would be aware of them by now. Good luck!

Thanks, SunshineJ. Here's hoping all goes well tomorrow. She's got 4 cavities (possibly 5). I can't believe it. I'll be trying to figure out how to keep more from forming. I see there are some threads about things like diet and natural teeth-healing. No pop; some sugar, but not tons; no candy; juice maybe once a day. Lots of teeth brushing and even flossing. Sigh. At least the sedation they're planning sounds safe.

Sorry to revive this old thread but I'd really be interested in a follow up how the sedation/procedure went.....could you maybe spare a few minutes for an update?

DS is 2.5 and has to have some dental work done (extractions, crowns, fillings), and conscious sedation is one of the options our ped dentist gave me, so I need more information

Thanks,

Charlie
