Someone running for the state senate knocked on my door

A man knocked on my door and handed me his campaign brochures. He said that it was his goal to shape up our state finances and get the excess spending under control.

I almost wish that I had the courage to tell him, "Well I know of an easy way to cut back spending--over 2.5 million dollars worth to be exact. Just cut infant circumcision out of our medicaid budget!" Instead I told him, "We need to cut all medically unnecessary procedures out of our medicaid budget."

Hopefully my broke state will get a clue and stop spending the extra money on circs and free up the money for real budget needs!

If you are serious about hoping that, then you need to clarify what you are talking about because it's entirely possible that he thinks it is medically necessary.

OP, I don't wish to make you feel bad at all....but we who are knowledgable about this issue really do need to find the mechanism to speak out. How else will anyone else who has not heard the information ever learn it. It might be that the person we are speaking to will close down to the info but they cannot deny that they heard it and it plants a seed. That seed might sit dormant for a long while....but the more it's out there, the more likely that seed is to grow sooner and faster. It's all baby steps.

I think we all need to find our own way to pass info along. A face to face chat with a stranger might not be what someone is comfortable with but it's certainly possible to write letters and contribute in more background ways. That's what we all do who are participating here at MDC!
