I hope this isn't too long, but I'm just at my wits end with my "female issues" and not being able to find an answer. I'll try to keep it as short as possible, with just the main points.
I start my first period when I was 14, and they've always been irregular to say the least. 3-6 months between periods was normal for me. My husband and I met just before I turned 19, and we quickly moved in together. We were together for 7 years before we got married - we never tried or prevented pregnancy, other than the "pull out method" during the first months of our living together. During that time I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and was treated for about a year, when I lost my health insurance and stopped treatment for 6 months to a year. Then I found a new doctor (I never liked the male doctor I originally saw) and the new doctor said my thyroid was fine, but that I had PCOS, and she put me on BCP. I never was able to find a pill that agreed with me well, and ended up going off of the BCP. Then that doctor left the practice, and I changed doctors again. That doctor did some basic testing and said that everything checked out, and even did a sono of my ovaries and said they looked fine. I had a total emotional breakdown for a day or two because I was convinced that if they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me, how could they be sure I would ever be able to get pregnant? This was about 5 months after my husband and I were married.
Later that week, I found out I was pregnant. I had been feeling nauseous, and I just thought it was from stress and trying to lose weight - maybe I wasn't eating enough - and a friend teased me that maybe I was pregnant. I took a test juts to prove I wasn't and I most certainly was! I was so surprised I went to a friend of mine who is an OB so she could do a sono on the spot for dating, and I was already 7 weeks, 4 days. I had been pregnant when the other did the sono! I ended up staying with my friend, the OB, throughout the pregnancy and birth. In the initial blood work, she found that I had low progesterone and prescribed the vaginal suppositories, and I never had any issues related to the pregnancy.
I had my first PP cycle when my son was about 9 months old, which was expected because I was breastfeeding. When he was around a year old, I went to our family doctor because I was sure my hormones were causing me to have some wacky moods, but she did the same tests and said that everything checked out fine. Now my son is 21 months old, and while my husband and I aren't ready to try something like Clomid, we are taking the "if it's meant to be, it will be" approach. I would really like to get pregnant in the next 6 months though.
My last cycles were 76 days and 45 days apart, and we are currently on day 54 with no signs of AF. I don't know what to do next. A few people have told me to see an RE, but they always seem to be related to IVF clinics, and that's not what we're looking for. I just want some answers, and for my body to be "normal" so that we can conceive when the time is right.
Oh, and I have struggled with weight issues. I'm up about 50 lbs, from 125 to 175 and I'm 5'6'', despite my best efforts. I was about 150 or so when I got pregnant, and lost that weight pretty easily after he was born, but it came right back with a vengeance, and it's really taking a toll on my self image (and my intimate life with my husband). I really just want to be "better".
Any support/advice/anything would help. Thank you!
