It's about time, baby!

Ezra Aren was born yesterday, 9/20, at 9:24am. He gave me my two wishes...

1. He came on his own.
2. He weighed less than 10 pounds. (9lbs, 13ozs)

Went into labor at 2am... contrax came like gangbusters fast and hard and we left for the hospital at 3:30am. By 4am I was nearly 5cm. (My first check)

Midwife on call was SO INCREDIBLE. I spent all that time worrying about my midwife being gone that day for NO REASON.

Anyhow, she left me to labor... and by 7cm I went for the epidural. Not sure when I was complete because the midwife let me go til I felt the urge to push. It didn't seem to come... so I had her check me and when she checked at 8:30am I was complete. Turned off the epidural and I started pushing at 9am.

Ezra was born 24 minutes later.

I had a small tear and overall, aside from needing sleep, I feel wonderful.

It was an incredible birth experience. I would not change a thing... not even the fact that I got the epidural. I only had it for a couple of hours and it was exactly what I needed to be feeling great by the time it half "wore off" and I felt like pushing.

No interference with pushing... (24 minutes! Sheesh!) and no lingering effects.

The midwife who attended the birth was incredible. We clicked instantly. She instinctively just asked me to reach down and deliver the rest of his body. I didn't think that would be "allowed" at my hospital birth and I never discussed it with the midwife in the practice who provided my prenatal care. She handed me the umbilical cord because one of my "birth wishes" on my short list was to delay cord clamping. She helped me to feel that it stopped pulsing. Just incredible in every way.

I am still in awe of how beautifully natural it all was despite being in a hospital. I will carry it with me forever, that's for sure!
