Rash on face from fermented foods

DD gets a red rash on her face when she eats fermented foods (where it touches her). If she is fine with the food otherwise I continue to give it to her and do not consider that rash to be definative but could I be wrong in that?

It is caused by sauerkraut, bubbies pickles, cheese, kefir, beet kvass. She has a problem with dairy and we were trialing. She also had her reflux come back and some vomiting so dairy is out. No other symptoms with the sauerkraut, pickles, beet kvass and she eats cabbage, cukes and beets w/o problems.

I'm not sure if she is now not reacting to foods or what. No reflux but still poor sleep and poor digestion (improved by fermented foods).

I _think_ I remember something about some people reacting on their skin to foods containing a lot of histamine, I think strawberries and eggwhites are also in that category (but those are trickier because there are more real allergic reactions to them).

Maybe do a search for one of whoMe's posts that contains histamine? Not sure if we ever had a histamine thread, or if it was part of some other discussion.

There's some in this thread:

and some on this website:

and fermented foods are high in histamine.

My approach would be to support methylation to keep histamine levels more balanced, by working on folate and vit B12:

My kids are very allergic to fermented foods too. they get severe diaper rashes to the point of bleeding. What a bummer as I have gallons of homemade organic sauerkraut on my fridge. It has been there since dd was a babe and I thought I would be fine with it after ds was born but he is highly allergic too.

Funny, I was just poking around the internet about this last night.

My 2 year old DS gets a red splotchy chin from sauerkraut, Bubbies pickles & eggplant (& maybe uncooked tomato paste..) Nothing else on any histamine list bothers him, and the red chin is the only symptom.

It goes away within the hour after eating, and does not bother him, his stomach or anything else. No other body part turns red that it touches either (hands)

I keep reading "allergic reaction - avoid those foods" when I googled....but I like the different approaches suggested here. Especially since, for us, it does not appear to be a full allergy, more like irritation.

For us, I'm going to continue with the sauerkraut, just not everyday b/c the benefits of it are too good to pass on. The eggplant, raw tomato paste he doesn''t even like anyway, and he's not reacting through breastmilk, so I will continue to eat it occasionally (not him)
