Crazy letdown!

I have lurked but not posted in this forum before but I thought if anyone knows the answer to this it would be you ladies!

When DD (9 weeks old) nurses I get letdown on both breasts simultaneously which always makes for a messy situation on the side that is not being *used*. We alternate breasts each time she feeds - it is very rare that she will take both breasts during one feeding session. I have an adequate supply - not too much, not too little... so I know its not an oversupply thing.

I don't remember this happening with DS so I was wondering if this is a usual thing? I hate breastpads and do not want to use them anymore!!! But I will hate the bull's eye on my shirt even more if I don't! TIA

This happens to me pretty often too. Although I hate wearing nursing pads, I continue to do so since I hate feeling wet when I leak through to my shirt.

It is completely normal. I have it on occasion with my 10 month old. Sometimes, gentle pressure on the other breast helps prevent this.

I think it's normal. I always wore pads because of it. I generally used lilypadz. At night I would just press on the side not being used when DS first latched on and that helped.

This is the only reason I'd ever want twins, both breasts would be occupied and I wouldn't have to worry about during nursing leaking. But, mine leak while I nurse and tons during the day while not nursing, so pads are a life saver. But, if you're not leaking during the day, just during nursing, you could just put a towel under that breast to catch the leaks while you nurse. I use pads and towels to contain my mess.
