anyone less excited about cloth since lo started solids?

So, I've been cding since shortly after ds was born. I've loved it and been a huge advocate to all other mamas I come in contact with. I've not minded any of the extra work at all. But, since we've started solids (ds is 7.5 months) it's been much more of a pain. I miss that nice, easy-to-wash-out breastmilk poo! Before, I would have a stain on one or two inserts per load and would just sun them out. Now, I have stains on several inserts and diapers (microfiber and fleece) and sunning is much less effective. I've started using Bac-out, and that's helped. But it's still much more work. Also, I've just not found a good system for dealing with the poop diapers. I have a sprayer, but I'm having trouble working out a good way to get the diapers to the toilet, get them sprayed and store them without having poop diapers waiting around all over the place.

Anyone else have this problem? What did you do? How did you handle the transition?

Yeah, I don't like dealing with the poop. Bm poop was so much easier.

Ds usually poops first thing in the morning (but sometimes not, like today) so in the first diaper of the day I put a liner. I just started doing this & the liner makes it so much easier to get the poop off into the toilet. I think I would like to get a sprayer as well.

When I change him I put the diaper to the side, finish changing him & then either put him on the floor to play or in his crib. Then I take the dipe to the bathroom to dump the poop, & then bring it back into the laundry room (which is attached to our bedroom) & put it in the diaper pail. I sprinkle a little bit of baking soda after each dipe is deposited which seems to really help with the smell. I wash every 2 days usually.

I personally don't worry too much about stains but I don't think I have any that are overally stained anyway.

We started after DS started solids, and it hasn't been too bad. Liners help, and the diaper sprayer is a life saver. After I change him, I bundle the diaper up, put him in a safe place and take the diaper to the bathroom to be sprayed. I haven't had too many stains, and they eventually seem to fade anyway.

It will become the new normal I dont do liners or have a sprayer & have cd 2 kids from bm poo up. I scrape the um chunky poos into the toilet otherwise do nothing & just throw them in the wash I have hardly any stains either

EC Poops are the easiest signals to catch. Honestly, you couldnt miss them going! So why not just hold them over the toilet next time you see them about to go? A lot easier then cleaning up after they've already gone IMO.

I use the sun to get most stains out but I really don't care much about stains as long as the diaper is clean. We started using liners around 14 months and that made a world of difference for clean up.

Don't worry too much about the stains. Life is too short

I've tried catching poops - I always fail.

There was only a brief period of nasty slimy poop that required scraping (with my designated poo spatula in a tub of vinegar under my bathroom sink). After that it was solid enough to sort of peel off straight into the toilet. I mostly line dry but didn't specifically sun out - and never cared much if they were stained or not. I too would deposit baby somewhere safe and take the diaper to the bathroom and then return it to the diaper pail. Around 13 months we started some casual EC/early PL and initially it was for poops. From then until potty training, ~19 months, I think I only missed about 3 poops.

I had a hard time during the transition too, but now I don't mind it.

I take the diapers to the bathroom and dunk them in the toilet. If it is super sticky, I just let them soak in the toilet and then put them in the 'dry' bag.

My dd doesn't really ever have the solid poo that just shakes off, but it is far less irritating now after a few months of practice.

Good luck.

I am not looking forward to this transition. Its coming soon too!! I think I will do the flushable rice paper liners. Although as it is my ds2 only poo's every 3 days so it might be easy for me to catch them on the potty.

I quit with ds1 for this reason (and terrible unsolvable rash reasons) so we'll see if I can stick this out.

Liners help a lot! and eventually you'll get a system that works.
But we've used cd's at DC and what they would do is wrap up the diaper, poop and all, in the rubber glove the state makes them wear to change dipes. At the end of the day, I'd empty the poop in the toilet and put them in the diaper pail. Although it sounds odd, the poop in the diaper for a few hours made it a lot easier to peel off with some toilet paper becuase the liquid gets absorbed. So, even when we're at home, for those really nasty ones that seem like you can never just shake off the poop, I'd put the whole thing in the diaper pail for a couple hours and then take it to the toilet and shake or peel off poop (with toilet paper in hand). I've never sprayed in 19 months.
