I've been tandem nursing DD who is 3 months along with DS who is 18 months. I've done it as long as I can but it hurts, I'm stressed and I can't get any sleep (we co-sleep with both babies) because if I'm not nursing one, I'm nursing the other. I had my heart set on allowing him to self-wean but I just can't do it anymore. My problem is that any time I nurse DD then DS wants to nurse as well. I don't know how to meet his needs in another way during this time. If he doesn't get to nurse then he cries and whines which keeps her awake and then I can't put her down to take care of him. When I do allow him to nurse with her he kicks and wiggles which pulls on my nipple out of her mouth and he holds on with his teeth which really hurts. Also, the only position I've been able to nurse both at the same time is laying down with DS draped over my side but DS is so big (over 30 lbs) that he crushes my ribs. I've looked on kellymom and can't find anything specifically about weaning one child in a tandem scenario. I would really appreciate any ideas or advice about how to do this gently to make it easier on all of us.
