Wwyd?

I already pretty well know what I'm going to do, just looking for some opinions from others. Last night I roasted a chicken, made broth with the bones, etc. I realized this morning that I forgot to refrigerate the leftover meat. I had planned to use it in soup and a baked dish. Would you keep it or toss it?

Well, I am the one that never worries about anything sitting out for a few hours and trust my gut flora to handle things (hasn't been a problem yet) But roast chicken overnight (like 8-12 hours), I'd toss it. Sorry mamma!

If you were leaning towards eating it, I'd say freeze it for 14 days, thaw and then heat well.

Was it in a sealed container overnight? If so I would make sure to thoroughly re-heat it in whatever you're making, if not I'd toss it. The safest bet would be to toss it either way but I'm not one for wasting and you can kill all the bacteria if you get it hot enough (ie. boil the soup).

I'd toss it, definitely.

Ick definitely 100% garbage.

How cold was your kitchen overnight? Does the meat smell "off" or does it smell fine?

If it smells spoiled, toss it. If it smells fine, then I'd use it, being sure to FULLY heat it up before using for anything else.

Just make sure to cook it thoroughly, and you'll be fine.

I would certainly eat it. I have done so before

As much as it pains me, I am going to toss it. I just don't want to risk food poisoning at the moment. I have 4 kids, and I am pregnant; I think that would be a pretty nasty thing to deal with just now. Thanks for your input! I would rather be safe than sorry just now.

I can only tell you about experience of millions of people but you will have to decide according to your comfort level. Russians are BIG at traveling by train. Train restaurants have bad food and are very expensive. So, people usually pack their own food with them which can stay overnight and longer without refrigeration. The usual train food almost always includes: fried/grilled whole chicken (but NOT the boiled one), hard boiled eggs. I lived in Russia for 26 years of my life, everyone I ever knew did this and I'm yet to hear about any poisoning from that.

Thanks for the opinions, mamas. If it was just me, not being pregnant, no kiddos, I would not hesitate to just cook it thoroughly and enjoy. However, I AM pregnant, have 4 kiddos, and DH is gone a lot, so I am not taking any chances.
