Great update! I'm glad that all is well now.

Separation can be a painful event and make them reluctant to pee. Here is a thread i wrote about it:

I wanted to add, my 9.5 year old can't retract yet, as far as I know (I basically told him if he wanted to tell me when he could pull it back but I wasn't going to check) but he's had various stages where he complained of it hurting. He also goes through wierd phases where his pee just comes out in a trickle...I actually think it correlates (this may be TMI) with him being constipated, lol.

Anyway, he's also smashed his foreskin on a cart, stuck pens in it, and stretched it to his ankle. Its all fine

Wow, I'm impressed.

And now I feel really lucky in the pedi's my ds (now 20) saw, who did NOT try to get us to circ. He did get a couple of UTIs over time, so many kids do, but his intake and stream were fine. I do recall telling him when he was old enough to start bathing himself that he should keep it clean, and the skin would move more later on.

I also told him the utterly stupid stuff my brother used to make up to tell other boys if they noticed at school that he wasn't circ'd! (Like not being able to masturbate without causing damage - I know he told that one in highschool, and laughed about his goofy friends believing it behind their backs later. )

Oh that reminds me, my ped is awsome too. He went when he smashed the cart and saw some on call doc, who tried to retract. She didn't say anything about circing but GRRR. I'd gotten so used to not having to worry about it that it didn't even occur to me. Luckily DS was 6 so he told her no before I could.

I actually took my son in at 8 years old about the weird trickle peeing thing. I was wondering if he had a UTI. She asked if he was retractable yet, I told her no, she looked on the exterior quickly and then asked for me to help him get a clean catch. The test came back negative, no UTI. She basically said after that that unless he started having problems with it-recurrent infections, pain while urinating, complaining about it or something-that she didn't think it was anything to worry about. She said if it progressed, to bring him back in and they'd do more testing to try and figure it out. Never once did she mention circing and never has

Like I said, he's 9.5 now and still couldn't retract at his 9 year well child check. She didn't say anything about it.
