A Prelude to the Ottawa Breech Birth Conference
featuring LISA BARRETT, Midwife

The S. O. G. C. has recently changed their breech Clinical Practice Guidelines to include planned vaginal delivery in selected women with a term, singleton breech fetus. The challenge with this change is to train practitioners in the art of vaginal breech birth.

We are fortunate to have British trained midwife, Lisa Barrett, speaking in Vancouver prior to travelling to the 2nd International Breech Birth conference which will be held in Ottawa. We urge all maternity care providers to take advantage of this learning opportunity.

Who are the S.O.G.C.? I hope that this means the women in BC will be allowed to have vaginal breech births. I was shocked in my last pregnancy when I was told that if my baby was breech I'd have to have a c-section.

It's The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC), so yes, this should mean vaginal breech births in BC! Unfortunately it's something that care providers do not have much experience with now.

And CONGRATS on your April surprise

I'm so pleased to hear that they're going to be allowing breech vaginal births. I was shocked to find out that they didn't. I hope that they can get everyone trained so that it is a success.

Thanks for the congratulations. I'm still coming to terms with this little surprise . How are you guys doing?

We're doing pretty well thanks! Lots of changes for us lately, we got some animals and dh has been off work with an injury and is looking at changing his line of work completely, but all in all things are good

I love change! It can feel scary at first but it`s almost always worth it. Good luck
