Has anyone ever gone into labor at work?

I'm a working mom, but with my first I was put on bed rest for pre-e 8 days before he was born. With my second, I stopped working again about a week before he was born (I was just miserable). This time, I'm past the dates when I delivered my other two, and I'm still working. So far all of my prodromal labor signs have been in the evenings, during the day my uterus is pretty quiet. But I suppose that could change at any time.

I've just been assuming that I'll go into labor at home in the evening or overnight, but it's just as possible that I could go into labor during the day while at work.

So how did you working moms handle that? If it starts with contractions that build, then I'll have notice and I can leave when I start to get uncomfortable or antzy or whatever. If it starts with my water breaking, that'll be a first for me, and I guess I'll go home right away (I'll have to change my clothes anyway!).

I'm trying to decide what I'll do if I lose my mucous plug. With my first that happened a day or two before labor started, with my second I lost it just before hard labor started. I guess I'll base it off my other symptoms, if I'm also contracting then I'll head home, if I have no other labor signs, I'll just wear a pad and be ready to leave if necessary.

I'm not sure why I'm worrying about this, but for some reason I'm feeling the need to plan it all out better. And I am having a few little contractions while sitting here this morning, maybe that's what's triggering my need to have a better plan!

Due date crashing to say this happened to me twice. Well, with my first I was probably in labour before I walked to work, but didn't realize it. When I couldn't get comfortable wtih the back ache I was having, I left to go home and ended up having her about 12 hours later.

With my 2nd it was a similar thing, only this time a nurse (i work in public health) insisted on walking me over to L&D and they admitted me. My son was born about 6 hours later.

I'm from the Jan DDC but thought I'd chime in that I went into labor at work with ds. Like you mentioned, though, things just started slowly enough that I packed my stuff up, went home, ate lunch, napped, etc. What happened is that I was almost 38 weeks, I was in the office and I just felt terrible. I had an awful backache and started feeling nauseous. It was plenty of notice to know that something was up and I needed to leave.

With dd although I didn't work outside the home, I was doing some child care. Even though my labor with her labor was super fast and didn't *really* start until the next afternoon, I still had enough of a heads up the night before that I was able to call the parents and tell them not to come.
