We use one in the car. My five year old goes to Kindergarten in the next town over so we spend at least 1 1/2 in the car every day (45 minutes each way and I always drive in the mornings, sometimes carpool takes him home). Driving down the interstate with my finger in her mouth didn't seem safe, so pacifier it is. I leave it in the carseat though, she doesn't need it any other time and doesn't really like it overall. She'll be happier when she can figure out her thumb, she's working hard at it.

Ok, driving that far every day makes me want to cry. I still haven't gone anywhere alone with the baby (well, partly becuase she's fussy and will spit her paci out, needs help to get it again). Hat's off to you, mama.

I am hoping to hold out a few more weeks before we need one in the car (limiting car rides right now). I tried one in the car with DD but she hated it and spit it out to continue her wailing protests.

Ah I know how that goes. There is much wailing and gnashing of gums when I try to drive somewhere.
