Any nursing mamas? - Page 3

My DD is 20.5 months. She loves her nursies but hasn't been asking as often lately.

I am also very torn about what to do. My supply has been dropping these past few months anyway and the last couple of days my DD has told me "all gone" after only a few minutes. She used to be satisfied with one side per session, but now she hops back and forth multiple times in the same amount of time. The fact that she asks to nurse tells me she is not ready to wean, but since the frequency of her asking as dropped, it seems like she is getting ready.

I am torn as to whether I fight to boost my supply or just use the supply drop as a convenient way to encourage weaning

Well, I've still not even gotten an official positive hpt, but when you've been pregnant as often as I, you just know. And it looks like I'll be the first here likely to be nursing 3 at once. Go me!

My 26 month old still nurses about once a day. I also have a 9 month old that nurses unlimited and almost exclusively. Thank GOODNESS I encouraged my 6 year old to wean on her 4th birthday, because if not she would still be nursing, too! Now that's nursing 24 hours a day! Ha!

My family will think I'm crazy to be pg w/number 5 period, so I don't think I'll be sharing the triandem nursing thing any time soon. Since I tend to get so sick I lose a good 10-15 lbs in the first half of pregnancy, everybody wish me luck.

I'm nursing my 17 mos old. He doesn't nurse very long during the day- maybe 30 seconds at a time and then he's off and running- but at night it's a different story. He's nursing every 3 hrs still.
I'd like him to nurse as long as he wants. I kinda hope he doesn't wean because of this pregnancy. It would break my heart. My first nursed until he was 21 mos. I had no milk at all and he just lost interest. I felt absolutely horrible about it. I mourned our nursing relationship for a while and tried to get him to nurse after my second was born- No way, no how! He was done.

I really hope that the nipple pain isn't as bad this time around.....

If you're high risk and have preterm contractions, then nursing will likely trigger big contractions. So don't risk that. But your doctor will warn you of that. Most moms do not have this issue.

I only need 300 calories extra for pregnancy per day. That's really just a little extra salad dressing calorically. Not a big change. Then a little extra for the nurslings calories too. I have big babies, so I can't say that anybody has needed extra calories. Don't most of us try and not gain too much weight - rather than struggle to keep pounds on?

Remember that a nursling under a year WILL NOT get enough milk when the milk supply drops - so nurse more often, supplement them with what is appropriate for their age.

If your babe is under a year - then babe needs higher fat solids and a drinking supplement like infant formula is important, rather than thinking you can do exclusive breastfeeding while pregnant. Our babe liked avocado cubes, buttered sweet potato cubes, and tofu cubes - for example. As well as fruits etc. An older nursling, over a year - can just nurse as they desire, along with their regular meals and occasional cups of milk or milk substitute. Because its not their primary source of food.

I noticed that it helps sibling rivalry, or the new baby syndrome, when they're both snuggled up at the breast together. It's so cute, them holding hands too. The toddler at first wanted to nurse as often as the newborn, but then was willing to be distracted to go do other things or sit and read when baby nursed every 45 minutes during growthspurts, or every 2 hours as a newborn.

I'm still nursing my 2 1/2 year old three times a day (morning, nap (when she's home), and before bed). I nightweaned her this past week and let me tell you, I needed it. My nipples are so sensitive and I just couldn't do it anymore. I was really starting to feel resentful. She has done spectacularly well. The first night she cried 45 mintues (this is all in bed with me, not alone), the second night 9 minutes and now not at all. She has also slept 8+ hours on her own two nights in a row. It has been wonderful.

Part of me hopes she'll wean slowly on her own over the course of pregnancy. The other part of me doesn't want to lose my baby. I feel very torn. Right now I don't plan on weaning her completely. I'm just taking everything day by day.

I am nursing my 20 month old -- she is still very much a mainly breast-fed baby. When I became pregnant with my second, my first was 16 months and still very much an active nurser, too. I totally planned on tandem nursing, but my milk changed in flavor and supply and she slowly weaned by 18.5 months. I anticipate the same thing happening with this pregnancy and nursing baby. To be honest, I am okay with them weaning because at least I'll have a little "break" from nursing. My kids are all 2 years apart and that is a long time of having my boobs out for rent!

I am undecided...

I tandem nursed #1 and #2 - they were exactly 2 years apart. I found that there were definite benefits in that they were very close, and that it helped prevent mastitis (which I am extremely prone to) since I could always ask the older to empty the breast if I was engorged at all.

There were struggles too though. I found that later on in my pg when the supply dropped, it was very painful and I had to limit the duration of nursings. I also found it extremely difficult to eat enough once I was nursing two. The weight (which I gained extra of) dropped so quickly PP that I felt awful - I lose fairly quickly as it is so this was TOO fast.

#2 and #3 were 2 yrs 4 months apart and I weaned #2 when my supply dropped. #3 had already weaned herself at around 2 1/2 when I was pg with #4.

We shall see...my youngest is almost 16 months and nurses a LOT still. I will play it by ear and see if she moves toward weaning at all. If so, I might encourage her gently when my supply drops. But I may also end up tandeming again for all I know right now!! She still seems so young. It's a little daunting but I've done it before.

I have noticed that DD2, 6 months, hasn't been getting enough during her feedings--she's a little chunk anyway, 95th percentile for weight--so I've started supplementing her with formula after her nursing sessions, if she still seems hungry. She seems much happier now, and is starting to sleep better.

I would love to be able to keep nursing her exclusively during this pregnancy, but my baby's health and happiness is the most important thing.

Has anyone had a big dip in their supply come back up suddenly again? I felt engorged and even leaked a tiny bit today for the first time since my positive pg test. This is making me sort of obsessively nervous that something has happened to the baby inside. My nursling is 9 months and still EBF...maybe that makes a difference? Nothing changed at all in my food, liquids, or vitamin intake.

I so hate the constant worry aspect of pregnancy.

I'm still nursing my DD and she is 10 months. I plan on nursing her until she weans herself. She also drinks formula from a bottle. I just don't know if I can nurse both babies. I guess I'll find out when the time comes.

How are all the nursing mamas doing? I'm coming up 7 weeks in a couple days and my nipples are SORE!!! I think my supply has dropped some as well. Anyone else?
We're still doing well! We got a heartbeat on the little bean at 8 wks, and my 9 m.o. is still mostly EBF. I've started introducing a few solids though and she's taking to that well.

I started some progesterone cream and have a script to fill for prog. suppositories just to be sure the nursing doesn't affect my prog. levels. Though I kind of think it were going to, it probably already would have done it.

My big goal right now is to get my 9 m.o. to the point where she's comfy enough with solids that I can leave her with dh for a few hours a couple times a week and have a wee bit of time to myself, since if this pg progresses well, I will be permanently attached to another baby for another year. I have a very small window in between.

Edit: Forgot to add, my supply dipped too but she nursed constantly and brought it back up.

We weaned last week when we figured out that I was spotting more after nursing. Once we weaned, the spotting went away. My goal was 2 years and we were only 2 months short of that, so I'm okay with it. DS is doing pretty great considering...

I'm nursing my 12 month old and just found out I'm pg last Sunday. Since I've tandem/triandem in the past I'll probably tandem again. We'll see how things go. My nips are just now getting tender but otherwise my supply seems ok. I know with my last pg's drinking RRLT I was able to keep my supply up until 8 months.

My daughter will be 2 in a couple weeks and she still nurses several times per day and still at night. I want to make it through flu season with her still nursing, but am hoping to wean her around March or so. She LOVES her "nurse nurse" so I'm not sure how easy it will be, but I do feel like my supply is not what it used to be, so maybe she'll have no choice!

My DS is 18months and still nursing a lot! I love our nursie time together, but bedtime and nights are really challenging right now. My nipples are sooooo sensitive and I'm so hormonal, that I turn into an evil beast Something about the angle maybe when we are lying together? It just feels unbearable. I feel so bad about and have been trying to stay calm and loving and not let him feel my frustration, but it is really wearing on me and I feel so guilty for having these feelings as we are snuggled in together. So, I am starting to think about night weaning, but really just don't know how to go about it in a gentle way. It just seems like the only way to keep our nursing relationship positive.
I've always planned on nursing until at least 2, and he shows NO interest in weaning, so I have a feeling we will be venturing into tandom nursing.

DS will be two in December and still nursing away. My nipples are really sensitive at the moment and I'm trying to encourage some gentle night weaning which he seems to be taking well. I'm hoping he'll nurse through flu season and then perhaps wean of his own accord. He's really attached to the boob and I don't see myself forcibly weaning him anytime soon.

My 20 mo. old is still nursing strong so I am going to be tandem nursing.

yehhhh, i'm not alone! i'm nursing a 22 month old currently and am hoping/planning to wean sometime soon. i love nursing him and feel a little guilty because he loves nursing too but i don't want to tandem nurse. i don't really know why i'm just not into the idea of 2 at the same time, that reliant on me. at least i'm not alone in this though!
