We've had two doctors try to retract and one act surprised and give reasons why we should when we told him not to retract before it even got to the point where he could "try" (yeah, we finally learned our lesson).
One of the doctors told us we had to pull back the foreskin during each bath, a little bit more each time, to make him fully retractable (this is when he was a newborn). The other told us she/we had to pull it back to make sure it was clean and that he could pee in a straight stream. Not really sure why I would need to pull back the foreskin to check for that. He had just been peeing in a straight stream all over the floor a few days before! The last doctor told us we had to pull it back to clean it. Unfortunately this is the best doctor we can find in the area. At least he respects the fact we don't want him to retract? Ugh.

No problems, but I decided not to vote, as circ isn't as common here as in the US. I pretty sure my mom was given the "retract to clean" advice with my brother, and I believe she followed it. He, fortunately, seems to have avoided any problems because of it.

The doctor retracted my son's foreskin today at his well-baby checkup. Last time he just kind of pushed it around and said it was "kind of tight". This time he pulled it all the way back and said that's what I should be doing when I bathe him and clean it. My son didn't cry when he did it, but tonight he's been crying sporadically- I think he's crying every time he pees. I have him coverless right now to see if my theory is correct. He also had vaccinations today so the crying could be from soreness from that (please no debate on that is this particular thread, I don't want to derail it). I'm horrible with confrontation so I didn't say anything like "what are you doing?" "stop", etc. before, during, or after. I think I will just quietly find a new doctor.

The nurses at the hospitals were glad we didnt't want to circ. The second on call ped asked if we wanted it, she obviously didn't bother to read the chart...
The military ped tried to retract him on the frist WBV even though I said no. I pushed his hand off of DS's genitals. I watched like a hawk afterwards.
At the new base, it's a NP. During a WBV, he took off DS's diaper and I immediately said don't touch him, don't retract him, that is not supposed to be done. He was like do you do it (implying it should be retractable) and I said no, the owner of the foreskin is the one who should do it. He didn't say anything else and put the diaper back on.

I do minimal well baby visits but I have a fabulous family practitioner who is very well versed in alternative medicine and is all about building health and not sickness management.

We had an emergency visit and I had a nurse try to retract him after being told not to, being told she was retracting and to STOP! I had to physically remove her hands from him!

I want, just once, to have a good medical experience with a mainstream medical office/hospital. I have no issues in my regular circle of health care providers....but they are all alternative practicing folks.

we don't go to the doc unless we have to. i use an urgent care place. when i took my son to see a ped, one who is reputed to be very mellow about non-vax and the like, the ped told me i needed to be "working his foreskin" gently up and down at least a time or two a day so he would be able to retract it. and he made a lewd hand gesture, but with his fingers. i said, that isnt what i've read and heard, he said that he'd seen TERRIBLE infections that couldve been prevented if the parent had done as he'd suggested.

the other ped at the practice, a woman, was VERY offended when i told her not to touch his penis/retract him in any way. she said "I KNOW, IM A DOCTOR."

so, we don't go there to that doc anymore, not since 6 weeks, and ds is now 20 months and doing fine....

My son is only 18 months. His doctor seems to like to push back his foreskin to look at the meatus. Nothing that has caused problems... yet. I haven't asked what he thinks about when my son should be retractible. Thinking I need to address this and tell him my son is getting too old to have his penis messed with at appointments.

No problems here so far and no attempts to retract. However, I have a friend whose uncirced CD sees the same ped and she gave them steroid cream when he wasn't retractable at 5.
