I have 3 intact sons, and have never had any issues...my youngest son woke up this am with a swollen, red and painful foreskin. It is the entire end piece, it is quite swollen. I have put a call in to the doctor, but wanted to be a little more prepared then I am right now, not having a penis, and not knowing really what is going on. help....
He is 3 years old, and is retractable, he retracts it himself, when he "plays" with it, he has never been forcefully retracted. Nobody but him messes with it. hth.

Anyone? Also he is in cloth diapers..he is allergic to disposables...should I strip my diapers?

Are you sure that it is 100% retractable? If not, then it could be more of the separation process occuring. Have you tried soaking him in a baking soda bath?

Here is a thread that has some helpful information on what to look for if there is a problem and how to go about fixing it http://www.mothering.com/discussions...d.php?t=764732

Wanted to add even if he is retractable dont let the Dr. retract him. Have a culture done by swabing the very tip only.

My partially retractable 3 yo sometimes tries to stick things in there. Look to see if there is a cut or something that might be infected. If you see some thing, you can put Bactricine (not Neosporine, since some people react to it on sensitive mucus membrane) or breast milk.

If it's not a cut, then it may be yeast or run of the mill diaper rash. Naked time is usually good for things in the diaper area, and stripping the diapers can't hurt.

It may be a bit more separation happening. Though that seems unlikely since he is already retractable, there may be a few spots that hadn't released yet.

If it gets bad enough to take him in to the Dr, don't let the Dr do the retracting even though you DS is retractable, have you DS do it himself only to the point of comfort. Only your DS knows if the sphincter at the end of his foreskin is relaxed or contracted. The Dr can do a swab to test for yeast or bacteria.

I think he is fully retractable, but I don't know as he is the only one who retracts it. I will try the bath thing, thanks.
I won't let anyone but him retract it, I am really anal about this with all of my boys...
I can't see any cuts, but I don't wanna mess with it...he says it hurts, so he is leaving it alone. I will also try some nakey time while I'm stripping the diapers...I will also check out that thread. Thanks guys!

Another question...we are weaned now, but my bff is nursing, can I use her breast milk on it? She has nursed him in the past, so trust is not an issue.

You most definatly put some breast milk on there. Breast milk has antibacterial properties so if there is a minor cut it will help it heal. It cant hurt
