I use bamboozles with bumgenius covers. I also use fleece liners to help keep moisture away from my toddler's skin. At this time I use disposables overnight. I noticed recently that they started smelling like ammonia with the first pee and the tip of my son's penis turned red so I stripped the diapers. When I used them again they didn't smell of ammonia right away (although did eventually) but still made his penis red. I stripped them yet again before continuing to use them (so I stripped the stripped diapers) and now they don't smell like ammonia at all but still the tip of his penis is red. The poor dear!!!! Last time he would just cry because it obviously hurt. He hasn't gotten to that point yet with these (today was the first day I used the double stripped diapers). I would have thought the fleece liners would protect him from the moisture in any case. Now the other thing with today was that we were out and about a lot today so I didn't change him as often as I would have liked and the diapers were very wet when I did change him. So I'm not sure if the redness is from the diapers being bad for him or from him going too long without a diaper change. Or maybe the fleece liner shouldn't be used? I don't know. I wanted to use the fleece liner for two reasons: to keep moisture away from his skin so much and to help with poos. But honestly they don't seem to help me get rid of the poo anyway. I'm still scraping a lot. (Gag.) Also, does it make a difference how long the diapers sit between washings? We live in East Africa and don't have running water - we have to get water trucked up to us periodically and they aren't reliable so we have to conserve water to a great degree. (We use a washing machine btw.)
Okay. Well. That's a lot of cluelessness going on.
Can anyone help?
Thanks!
