I decided to start making soap this autumn and have a question:

If I add my lavender (from my backyard) into the soap bars, do I still need to add some lavender eo or will the buds be enough to make a good, strong-ish scent?

So... I was just looking at the Dr. Bronners website, and it seems that the soap there is less than cost-effective.. Am I wrong? Is there somewhere else I could look to find the natural soap so many of these recipes call for?

Bar Soap?

I have never made bar soap but would like to. I do not have a scale. Does anyone have a recipe that uses measuring cups instead of weight ingredients?

With Dr. Bronners, you are only using 1/4 of a cup of it. That's what makes ti cost efficient. The initial- "you want HOW much for that bottle???" passes when you realize how long the bottle lasts.

Okay, you ladies and guys have some great ideas. But... is baking soda safe for color treated hair? I dyed mine not long ago, and will be dying it again in a week or so. If not, any suggestions for colored hair?

I copied this recipe from the first post on this thread.

Dish Detergent
1/4 Cup warm water mixed with 1 tsp of Baking soda

or

1 Tbpn Baking soda and 1 Tbpn Borax



Okay, this is going to sound silly, but how do I use this recipe? For example, do I just dump a tablespoon of baking soda and a tablespoon of borax in a sink of water for the dishes, or do I put it on a sponge, etc.?

I'm not really sure. I've heard that it strips the color from your hair, though. Of course, I'm a redhead who enhances, so maybe it just strips the color from red hair? It was recommended to me not to use baking soda, but red does fade the fastest. I've heard there are other natural things to wash your hair with, such as a few drops of tea tree oil diluted in water.

It seems this is an old thread that folks likely don't visit often these days. Maybe you should post your question as a new thread. I bet then you would get responses! Good luck!

Thanks. I haven't tried the sponge idea yet, but I have just dropped some in the sink filled with water and it seems to work pretty well. My husband was amazed. You just have to get used to the absence of bubbles.
