HELP!!! The state is trying to force circumcision on my son!!!!!

My estranged husband and I placed our 3 incredible little love bugs with some close church friends for a time, while we dealt with some issues. Well, the state felt the need to intervene, since they don't like parents who take initiative and look out for the best for their children. Now they're in foster care, instead of guardianship, but thankfully, still with these same friends (a very warm, loving, Christian family).

Here's the problem:
The kids have been getting sick a lot since they've been there and our kid's Pediatrician, who was awesome, does not work at the clinic anymore. So, the kid's have been seen by our friend's Pediatrician. I have never met this doctor but the more they tell me about her, the more I grow concerned. She likes prescribing medicine for anything, including pseudoephedrine (which can be very dangerous, especially in children). She's also very much pro-vaccine and pro-circumcision. I have asked that the kids see a different Pediatrician and suggested one from the clinic where the kids previously went. I have yet to hear from the state on this matter.

With the kids being sick has also been the problem of my 4 1/2 year old son having repeat infections on his penis. He is potty-trained and does not wear any sort of diaper/pull-up. We never had a problem with him getting infections before this, aside from the occasional diaper rash, as a baby, and found that he just had sensitive skin. (Cloth diapers and JASON brand baby diaper rash cream worked wonders, in addition to naked time. LOL)

The Pediatrician that the kids are currently seeing is recommending circumcision, due to the repeat infections, for my son. I am highly against circumcision and it immediately brought up a red flag for me, especially as my son never had issues with this before and had his 4 year well child visit at the end of January, with a clean bill of health. I thought, "Someone must be retracting his penis, for him to be getting these infections." I asked our friend and she said that the Pediatrician does this and I told her again that she needs to step in and tell the doctor, "NO!" I then had to explain to her how dangerous a practice retracting is and she just didn't get it.

So, now I'm going to a children's hospital tomorrow with our friends and my little guy, to see a Pediatric urologist. Whatever this doctor says will go on state records. I still have a right to a second opinion and I am always willing to fight long and hard for my children. However, the Deputy Commissioner can override me, right now, so I don't have long and desperately need help.

If it's helpful, as far as laws and such go, I am in St. Lawrence County of New York state.

I am so sorry you and your ds are going through this.

Have you legally lost custody? If that is the case you may have a real problem here and not be able to stop it but if you still have custody you dont have to consent to any surgery.

I would start by contacting the lawyer we have that posts here and see what your rights are. here is his email docdirector.geisheker@gmail.com

Odds are high this ped urologist will recommend circ because they rarely take the wait and see approach This urologist should not be allowed to retract your son dont let it happen do what it takes to prevent it. He already has issues and retracting is just going to make it worse. Your ds might not even be having infections it might be the seperation process which can to the uneducated eye look like infection. ie pain, swelling, ballooning etc.

I would fight this with everything I have if I where you. Your ds has been abused while in the care of this other family and the Dr. who did it needs to know that it is wrong.

If I had to bet, the doctor probably tried to retract your son and this is what started the problem, introducing bacteria to the area. Have you read a Warning for Parents of intact sons thread?

I'm wondering what kind of infections and how circumcision will resolve it.

I asked her if the doctor had done this (retracting) and she said yes, even though I had advised her to never let a doctor do this to my son, when we first placed our kids with her. She only has a daughter and had never looked into this issue before and seems to be the type to just go with w/e a doctor says. I told her straight up, when she said the doctor had been doing this, not to let the doctor and that is the reason that my son is getting infections now.

I don't know the specific types of infections- only that it's been red and painful. They're trying to say that circumcision will cure this but it doesn't make any sense. I don't get why they're so circumcision happy. :-(

Stop whatever you're doing and email the person who mcat provided. Send a PM to a member here Dave2Ga he is a Georgia lawyer and might be able to provide some advice or referal or something. Also give marilyn a call at NOCIRC the number is here: http://www.nocirc.org/contact.php

let us know when you reach one of these three people.

Please contact Doctors Opposing Circ ASAP! Here is their contact info http://www.doctorsopposingcircumcisi...t/contact.html

They are MDs and may be able to help you to prove that what this doctor was doing was wrong and was most likely the cause of the problem. They also have a layer. For now I would tell the friend to ABSOLUTELY MAKE SURE that no one retracts your son. Did they culture the infection? If it's yeast, yeast cream + good probiotic would take care of it. If it is not yeast, an antibiotic + good probiotic for at least a month afterwards would take care of it as well.

Also contacting Marilyn Milos, executive director and founder of NOCIRC would be a good idea as well. She is a R.N. and is very nice and helpful.
Good luck!

It may be red and painful just because the doctor keeps retracting it. It's like ripping a finger nail from its finger bed: painful, traumatic, harmful and can definitely cause infections and scar tissue growth (if she keeps doing it). And scar tissue may lead to true phimosis in the future. This doctor needs to be stopped from harming your son and other little boys.

If you have not lost your parental rights, you DO have the right to be at every doctors appointment that your children go to. You DO have the right to choose a different pediatrician. Your children's medical care is the responsibility of their parents, and if you still have parental rights, you have the right to be active in their health care. (Said as someone who had to remind CPS of this fact.)

We all know the medical excuses that you will hear for why he needs a circ are bogus, but us giving you advice about that is useless. You need a lawyer. This isn't a medical issue. it is a legal one. The Dr will want to do it for the all the u$ual rea$on$.

I would say no to the exam, unless they have a court order or something.

These infections are happening b/c the retraction or it might just be symptoms of normal separation. 4.5 is a prime time for separation symptoms to appear. Another thing you need to make sure that she is not letting your son sit in soapy water or applying soap to his genitals. This disrupts the flora and causes yeast.

http://www.mothering.com/discussions...893&highlight=

Print the pamphlets and articles in this link to take with you to the appointment. When you are at the appointment make CERTAIN no one manipulates your child's foreskin. If they say he has an infection make them do a culture by swabbing the tip (NO RETRACTION). A culture will show if there is bacteria, yeast or nothing. Any bacteria or yeast will be present on the tip if it exists.

How can you get your children back? I have a little experience with foster care in OH.
