I received the book on Monday from the library. I finished it last night.
There are NO spoilers in my post!!!
What a disappointment! I had the site in question figured out early in the book, guessed who one of the characters was early in the book and found the reasoning behind the "big security concern" ridiculous. The time frame of the story was hard to believe, as well. And, the ending? Well, duh, saw THAT one coming before the halfway point.
Having been to Paris, I loved the "DaVinci Code" and enjoyed following the route the characters took. I've been to the city in "The Lost Symbol" and found I wasn't interested in Brown's descriptions of it (nor, did I find myself thinking, "Oh, wouldn't it be fun to re-visit those places?!").
The historical information in "DaVinci Code" was interesting and fun. The whole controversy / reaction from the Catholic church was grand and made for terrific discussions with friends of that organized religion.
What little historical info offered in "TLS" was less than hardcore members of the group involved in "TLS" have spoken of with me!! I mean, they do tend to be quite secretive on their (how shall I say it without revealing anything to possible future readers?!) activities and actions within the hallowed walls of their meeting places. I found I had no interest in learning more about the group.
As I read "TLS", I kept thinking, hmmm I could put this book down right now and not care about finishing it. This thought went through my mind the entire time I read! I only finished it because I kept hoping I would be wrong about my guesses (I wasn't) and be pleasantly surprised at the end (I wasn't).
Sorry, Dan, I give "TLS" a BIG
(whatever happened to the thumbs down smilie??)
Well, at least there are new Ake Edwardson, Peter Robinson, T.J. Box, and Diana Gabaldon books coming soon (and I KNOW I won't be disappointed with any of them)!!
