I've just started EC with my 8.5 month old DS, and it's going GREAT! We had tried when he was 2-3 months old, but quit because he didn't like it and I was overwhelmed by the idea. But about a week ago, I got a feeling from him that now would be a good time to try again. He is SO happy when I put him on the potty! Every time he shows me his signal (scratching on the front of his diaper/pants), as soon as I sit him on the potty, he gives me a HUGE smile. Then I cue him with the tssst sound, and say and sign potty and he pees! It's amazing! Just like that, and he gets it. He peed in the BBLP 6 times today, and I caught both big poos the last couple days too (he's an every-other-day pooper)! I don't catch every pee or poo, by any means (and none so far when we're out), but having to clean fewer huge poopy diapers is AWESOME!
I'm kind of amazed at how well it works. I was so stressed about it when he was little, but this time around, I decided it didn't matter if I caught any or missed any, or if he peed on the floor if he was nakey, and that relaxed attitude has helped make this such a fun process. I'm so glad I trusted my instincts about what DS was telling me and started up again. He seems much happier now.
It's also amazing that it's working so well, since he's going through so many other changes right now - babbling has taken off, he's close to crawling, and he just got 2 top teeth. Somehow all that seems to have helped make this change easy, rather than hard.
I know it's only been a week or so, and I'm sure we'll have many ups and downs over the next couple years, but I'm so happy that it's working so well right now, and we're both enjoying it, which is really all that matters. Now if only I could figure out how to potty him in public without taking the BBLP everywhere (he doesn't like the thigh hold - he likes sitting and being able to look at me).
Anyway, just wanted to share my joy and give a big

to you EC mamas and MDC for introducing me to the concept. Thank you!
