Fleas!

My two inside only cats have somehow managed to get fleas- how in the heck does that happen anyway? We are going to use Frontline, but can't afford it until next week. One poor kitty in particular is just scratching himself silly! Is there anything I can do in the meantime?

You can try using a fine-toothed comb on the kitties and dipping the comb in a soap solution. That will kill the fleas it catches. Cat and dog fleas always manage to infest ME and I am very sensitive to them, so, well, I hope you can get the Frontline soon.

Bathing them in dawn soap and using a flea comb will get the ones on them off but won't stop the ones in your house from getting back on them. You might consider spraying your home as well. Flea infestations can be difficult to get rid of.

I brought fleas home last summer (I'm a social worker who does home visits...and gets exposed to EVERYTHING) and it was a horrendous experience... DH and I got bitten as much as our poor kitties. Definitely starting with the dawn soap/comb routine will help.... Vaccum at least once a day and throw the bag out once you're done. We did all that and the things that got rid of our infestation (2 grueling months later) was giving our two cats Capstar every other day for a month and having our home professionally sprayed by an exterminator twice. Good luck Fleas are THE WORST!!!

ME TOOOO
I bought a bag of diatomaceous earth(silica is in it ) to put on our carpets -leaving it on the carpets under furniture -then vaccum in 2-3 days lightly--
using a monthly flea killer/growth interupter on the cat (cheaper than frontline or Advantage ),we have tile in the kitchen and bathrooms between the bedroom the cat stays in (my hubby doesnt want it in the rest of the house ).
Good luck!
