At the hospital I work for, signing the declination is no big deal. You just go to employee health and sign the form, no questions asked. Last year, I "forgot" to sign one and no one said anything to me about it.
I do know of a hospital that sent an email telling the employees that if they don't get the shot, then it's considered a "voluntary resignation."
I guess different places have different requirements.
different hospitals can have whatever policy they want and threaten and bully as much as they want - but in the end they have to be in line with state health laws (allowing exemptions in their state)
In NY, the health commissioner has bypassed the existing health laws by declaring a state of emergency. Under the 'emergency' he has sweeping powers and not even the legislature gets to be involved. He started with healthcare workers because the WHO and the CDC are saying they are the first priority group. He already tried in 2008 to get a bill (Assembly bill 10942) passed that would make it illegal for any NY child NOT to follow the CDC recommended schedule, not just for school either - all infants and toddlers and kids up to 18. If anyone thinks this guy is going to stop at healthcare workers - they aren't paying attention.
Let's hope the rally turnout tomorrow has some effect. What's going on in NY effects us all!
