Hello, MDC. This introduction has been a long time in the making: I've been a lurker around here for over two years starting with incessant perusing of birth stories throughout my pregnancy with my younger DD (now 18 months old), and then progressing into pretty regular visits for by proxy advice on parenting, housekeeping, finances, and so on.
I've been hesitant to register and start posting because I'm not your typical MDC member. I'm not "crunchy" or "AP" or particularly "green". What I am, however, is open-minded, curious, and compassionate and, for that reason, I do think I will fit in here. My objective, always, is to educate myself on the things that impact my life and the lives of those I love.
Apologies for the novel-like introduction but, after two years, it didn't seem adequate to start out with "Hi, my name is..." Of course, that stuff is important, too, so here it is:
Hi, my name is Karin. I'm a SAHM (and part-time student and part-time WAHM) to a spunky almost-4-year-old and a precocious 18-month-old. My DH and I have been married since 2002 and dream of some day heading for the hills and going semi-off-grid - not for political or environmental reasons (okay...maybe it's a little political on his part
), but so that we can pursue and cultivate the kind of quiet, peaceful existence that we both desire.
I hope you'll all be as tolerant of me as a poster here as you have been of me (unwittingly, perhaps!) as a lurker. I've already benefitted so much from the MDC community. I hope I might be able to give a little back now, too.

It took me a while to start posting too, I'm pretty quiet IRL and it took a while for me to realize that if I didn't post, I wasn't really becoming a part of the community.
