ebf babes

I know it's normal for ebf babes to have soft stools, but what is the firmest it can get? DS is 9 months old and still has liquidy stools for the most part. I am just wondering if it will only firm up when he starts solids, or if there is a way to firm it up, at least a little bit more, while he is still ebf.

Also, what's the oldest age a babe can ebf without starting solids?

Thanks!

I would think that as long as he's EBF, he'll have the liquidy stools of a BF baby. I only saw firmer stools (and stinkier!) once solids started.

Believe me, you'd rather have the loose stools than harder stools. If you've ever seen a constipated baby, it'd make you cry. It's really hard to watch.

Well, that's a debate. Is there a reason you're waiting to start solids? You should do whatever your mommy instincts tell you to do.

Many doctor's will tell you that babies need to start solids around 6 months, because baby looses iron stores by then.

In my experience, DD didn't start until 10 months, and she was just fine. She is a healthy 12 years old today. DS didn't start until almost 12 months and he was just fine. He is a healthy 9 years old today.

I would be periodically offering solids at this point, but following baby's cues to see if he is ready.

my ds is ebf but eats 3 times a day..he loves to eat and really is hungry. he nurses5-7 times a day but i found hes grumpy in the morning so I started giving him breakfast after the kids go to school (he nurses at 6:30-7a, breakfast around 8-9 nurses 9-10 naps nurses 11or 12 eat then an hour or two later etc..)

His stools got firm after solids were consistant.
