Can I really do this?

I am 21 weeks preggo with #2 and DS is 16 months old. I don't have a sewing machine, but my parents do and they only live 1/2 a mile away (we don't have a car). We used prefolds/pins/vinyl covers with DS, and now we use Gpants with prefolds and he poops in the potty, but I hate the Gpants. They smell despite my every attempt to rid them of the pee stink, I despise velcro, etc.

So I want to make AIOs for the new baby. I don't want to do prefolds with pins anymore. I would love to find an easy pattern that I can follow (never sewed with a machine before, thank you public school for teaching me NOTHING USEFUL AS A MOM!)

Snaps, not velcro. And I want to knit wool soakers (I do know how to knit, I'm out of practice but I can pick it back up easily). Am I out of my mind here?

I've seen FuzziBunz and want to make something similar looking but without the whole inserts thing, and not fleece. I want to use all natural fibers, wool and cotton. Where to buy, how much to buy, what's a good price, what kind of sewing thread and needles to use? Thank you all!

If I can't do this, BTW, I'm just going to do prefolds with pins and knit my own wool soaker covers.

You can do it its fun! If the outside layer of ur dipe is waterproof go w/polyester/polyester thread otherwise u will have wicking. Have you checked oujt snappies? if u dont make the dipes u can use pf w/snappies & ur wool covers im not much help lol

You can't make all in ones with wool. I haven't used wool myself, but that I do know. They are more called "all in twos". You can make the wool covers with snaps, and then make the hourglass soakers to go inside.

You can also turn your old prefolds into prefitteds. Someone had a link on a tutorial on how to do that. THey are SOOO cute. So, if your prefolds are still decent, you can do that. And, it looks pretty easy. I do know the tut is on diaperswappers.com, I think. Kymberli

Absolutely you can do it! But start now...
Make sure you use PUL coated fabric for the outer layer. I get mine at wazoodle, see what you have around the house for your absorbent layers - old tshirts, cotton fleeces, towels.
Make a test diaper to start and if you can, try it on a friend's baby to make sure it fits & is leaf-proof before diving into the rest.
Good luck!

I find this website helpful and reassuring. They just suggest cotton tees from home ro thrift store, depends how fancy you wanna be. I am not a very good sewer but I am doing it-so can you! I'm 23 weeks btw. and the wool soaker pattern I am using I got off ravelry.com there are a ton of free ones there.
