thrush, diaper rash and puke.....

Hello all,

Jack has had thrush since he was 2 weeks old. It is finally clearing up in his mouth but he got a lovely diaper rash in his groin/thigh area. He had it for over a week. The Ped told me to use nystatin ointment on it and it is doing NOTHING at all for it. It looks terrible. I try to let him go nakes a bit of the the day, but he poops a lot so right now I am just putting a fitted cloth diaper on him w/out a cover or a loose prefold.

He is also a puker! I have oversupply and he pukes a lot! I block nurse & that only seems to help at night. During the day, I can be nursing him and he pulls off and pukes! He cannot lie down flat at all or he pukes.

I think I am going to call the Ped in the AM for both issues. Other that these things, everything is starting to get into a routine.

Take care all!

Sounds like my dd when she was a babe. It ended up being allergies. None of the anti yeast things worked, just cutting out those foods I was eating that were causing the issues.

Hope it clears up soon!

For the yeast rash- Super Duper Diaper Doo Gel (seriously thats the name of it)! They stock it behind the pharmacy counter at Target- seriously it works. Boric Acid and Lanolin are the ingredients. And you might want to use sposies until the yeast clears up- it is REALLY hard to get the yeast out of cloth dipes, unless you boil the dipes, so the cloth could re-infect. Sunshine on the bum too! UV light kills yeast.
Are you giving the babe probiotics? If you have a good one that you take yourself, you can break open a capsule and put some of the powder on your nipple and let babe suck it off. That will help with the yeast/thrush a lot.
As far as the puking goes...not sure, but if he is puking WHILE he eats (in the middle of a feed) that might be cause for concern. Good thing you are checking with the doc on that. Might be reflux?
You say you are block feeding- how long are your blocks? Maybe play with that to see if you can reduce spitting up.
