Disposables to Cloth at 13 months

Thread Starter
I'd like to switch our son from disposables to cloth and am really intimidated; so many options; also his poop is hardly solid, probably since he's still breastfed, i just can't imagine how i will clean it off the diapers. Any recommendations for transitions? From my research I think I am partial to All in one diapers....
Thanks for any input

Everyone that I know who uses bumGenius LOVES them. I have never personally tried them, as I use prefolds and a few fitteds. I like Swaddlebees and Tiny Tush one size fitteds. With fitteds you'd need a cover and my cover of choice besides wool are Bummis Super Whisper Wraps.

Oh my goodness, you have so many options! As far as AIOs go, you may be better off with an AI2 - they wash and dry easier.

The best diapers for your LO will probably depend on their body type. There are a couple of sites out there with reviews of the different brands.

For cleaning poop, I definately recommend a diaper sprayer. Alot of people will tell you that you don't need one - I didn't buy one and it is the biggest CD'ing regret I have. Especially for "soft" poop.

BumGenius is a really good option for alot of people. One of the biggest complaints with BGs is people not liking aplix/hookandloop/velcro, but they are coming out with a snapping version of their pockets and already have snaps in their organic all-in-ones. If you like aplix, you can find the velcro organic aios for pretty cheap.

We switched when my son was about 14 months old, and it wasn't as big of a transition as I'd thought it would be. We bought BumGenius diapers (they're a lot like disposables), and loved them from the beginning! I wouldn't go back now.

There are so many options. I really like fitteds the best for my older son (2 yr). They require a separate cover. I love prefolds and fitteds for my younger son (6 wks). I think my newborn will live in wool pants this winter, as it is so easy to put on the prefold and some pants, and he's good to go. Wool takes the place of a diaper cover because it absorbs a lot but doesn't feel wet, doesn't get stinky easily, etc...

Many, many people like pocket diapers, and I use them, but I get very sick of stuffing the inserts inside, especially since I have to wash diapers almost daily now with 2 kids. Yikes!

For me, fitteds and prefolds have been the most low maintenance, easy to wash, etc. No folding required!

oh - for poops, I'm partial to liners. You can buy flushable ones or fleece ones. The flushable ones catch most of the poop and you just dump it in the toilet and wave good bye. We usually use microfleece liners because I didn't want to ahve to keep buying the other kind. Even with sticky poo, a quick swish in the toilet and the poo just falls off. I never even have to touch anything. Then throw it in the wash and re-use!

You might want to try a few kinds at first so you can get a feel for what you like and what fits your babe. Good luck and keep asking lots of questions!

I have tried so many and it sucks that trial and error have been so expensive for me. I have finally figured out that I love Bum Genius AIOs the best. I have tried so many, but these are the best for me. They work the best too, for my kids. I have 2 in diapers!
