I have GMD orange and yellow edged prefolds. Will footed sleepers have enough room in the butt if I get them in the newborn size? Friends are recommending that I get some newborn clothes instead of just 0-3, but they all used disposables. If you had a baby that fit into newborn clothes, did those clothes fit over your CDs?

Probably will depend on NB size My DD at 6lbs 18 inches totally swam in NB clothing she really needed preemie size and wore that if I wanted her to have something that remotly fit. I did use sposies at first but I promise I coud have stuck the bulkiest cloth diaper around on her and fit NB sleepers over it.

Yes, mine fit (using Kissaluvs) but they didn't fit *as long* as they would have with sposies. In particular I found that zippered sleepers without feet (like Hanna Andersson's) didn't fit very long at all, because they are cotton and "made to be snug fitting" and all that.
Blanket sleepers (the fleece kind, meant to wear over other pjs) did better, but like I said, I found I had to move up a size sooner. With newborns I didn't find I could just buy a size larger because their feet wouldn't reach anywhere near the bottoms of the legs. Actually, now that I say that, that's why I didn't use blanket sleepers with feet for newborns at all. I used the bag-style ones.
HTH!

My ds2 was born at 7lb 3oz and now at almost 13 lbs he still fits in most of our nb sleepers, even with cd's. I quit using the gowns at night and now am using sleep sacks. It's starting to chilly some nights here in Michigan! Anyway, I put a little t-shirt on him, his cloth diaper (sometimes with Thirsties cover, sometimes with wool cover or shorties), and put him in the sleep sack. Makes night changes easy, too.
