flannel recieving blankets for flats?

Does anyone use flannel recieving blankets for flats? I've heard it works. I've never used flats, are they more bulky than pf? (which is what we use) Up to what age/pounds can you use them? Are they very absorbant?

I've done it in a pitch its VERY bulky pretty much on any age though.

How would you fold them? I have run out of PF's when we're out before,but always have a blanket or two!

I think how bulky they are depends alot on how you fold them. Alot of mamas love flats for their trimness. I have definately used flannel blankets in a pinch - actually used one at my mother's house once that was one of my blankets as a little girl. That was kind of special.

I found flats trim past the NB stage but flannal recieving blankets were bulky no matter waht.
