With dd, I tried everything. With this one I'm determined to keep it simple and buy only what we need.
It occurred to me, though, that out of trying everything with dd, there were only a very few things that didn't work (as in, leaked every time no matter what we did)--one brand of pockets and a few brands of covers. (Also, the combo of flats and wool, environmentally friendly as it is, was not a good one for us. One or the other worked fine, just not both at once....)
There were other aspects of the various diapers that I liked or disliked, of course, such as drying time, cost, fit, folding/stuffing time, etc, but 97% of the things we tried, I could have used exclusively if they'd been all that was available. I think all of them probably were better than disposables.
So, when I stress out between prefolds vs. fitteds for everyday diapers--hey, they both work! When I stress out between pockets vs. AIO's for daycare diapers--hey, they both work! I tried all the major brands with dd and almost all of them worked as advertised. Pins, Snappis, trifolding, Velcro, snaps--they all work to keep the diaper on. Cotton, hemp, bamboo, even microfiber all work to absorb the fluids. Nylon, PUL, fleece, and wool all work to keep your clothes dry. Some of them are more aesthetically pleasing than others, but they all do the job.
So I guess my message is if you're like me, cut the stressing a little and just enjoy what you've got.
