best way to disinfect cloth diapers

Hello all,

We have CD'ed all of our boys (now on #4) and never had an issue with this, but I need some advice. Our DS is 6 weeks old and has been battling thrush for 3+ weeks. We've gotten rid of it in his mouth, with the help of GSE but he has a terrible rash (for almost 2 weeks) and I think the yeast is in our diapers and not helping the rash. I have gone to sposies (Earth ones) until the rash is completely gone.

I have used GSE on my diapers and dried them in a very hot dryer for 70 minutes. I have also used Oxyclean in the rinse cycle and vinegar soaks prior to washing. Do you think that this is sufficient enough or do I need to use something like Bac-Out or (gasp) bleach? Please let me know, this is the first time I have ever dealt with thrush and the yeast rash. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to have to throw out my entire stash of prefolds.

Take care!!

Sounds adequate, Do you wash them in hot water?
Lots of air time is best cure ever, ime.

Skip the ads & look at diaper section on here:

Honey or glycerin as a rash cream may help, too; sounds crazy, but some ppl have good results (see here)

Some hot, hot, hot water and time in the sun (if possible) works great for us. I'll do a squirt of dishsoap in my wash too.

i used to boil my diapers when dd would get a bad yeast infection....always worked like a charm.

I say boil, and are you using any sort of anti-fungal cream on his bottom? That should help clear it up quicker.

I second drying in the sun and the anti-fungal cream. We used the topical OTC cream included in a vaginal yeast infection treatment kit.

Killing the Spores

I wash in extremely hot water (about 205 F). I've never been able to confirm that it's hot enough to kill yeast spores though. After a battle with yeast I usually iron the diapers with a hot iron. I've heard the boiling for at least five minutes will also kill the spores.

I've always been very successful with peroxide (non-chlorine) bleach.

My vote is for a good vinegar rinse followed by a good boil before sunning or sanitize function on your dryer. Don't forget to do it to your wipes too.
