My five-year old hasn't been to the doctor for a little over two years, and I'm getting calls from my insurance company (Tufts) and the doctor's office. He's not vaccinated. Any insight about what's going on? Should I be worried? Oddly, my other two (older) children haven't been mentioned.

well, I can kind of see the doctor calling, wondering maybe whether you are still in the practice?maybe just wondering if everything is okay? (all right, that's a stretch) but maybe he doesn't understand that you only want to bring the child in when there is a need? Our family pract knows and supports us not vaxing, but he does like to see the kids regularly, just so he can know who they are and see them as they grow - does that make sense? we see him every two years now as 'well non-vax visits"
as for the insurance company, it is not their place to call you at all. I'd be thrilled to tell them that your son's health is between you and the doctor and you do not want to hear from them unless there is a problem with the premiums being paid..

I talked with the dr. office nurse today, and she added some things to this child's record, but didn't know why I had received the calls. There was a note in his record that he needed a well child visit. I said I didn't want to bring him in for a well child visit during flu season, but would of course bring him in if he had any issues that warranted it.

You are the mom, you make the decision when and how often your child is taken to the doctor. Don't let them bully you. Tell them not to call you again for such nonsense.
