Is anyone else's heating costs down significantly this year?
Today I went to the co-op to prepay for our propane for this winter. We get a discount for prepaying, so it almost seems silly not to do it. Last year we paid $2.30/gallon for propane. This year the price is $1.35/gallon.
I was worried that the price would be high. We usually prepay for the upcoming winter in August to take advantage of low summer prices. This year we waited until the end of September because DH was required to take a 2 week unpaid furlough from his job. Waiting an extra month didn't make a difference at all, and prices are waaaayyyy down from last year. Because of the low price, we decided on the spot to buy an extra 150 gallons- we know that we'll use it eventually. Even though we bought more gallons than last year, our bill was over $600 less than what we paid last year.
I know that fossil fuel prices are bound to increase in the coming years, but for today I'm happy that prices are so low
